The Announcements page intended to draw attention to conferences, publications, awards and the like which may be of interest to IAAH members.

  • The Challenges Facing Museums on-site and online in the 21st Century – National Gallery of Ireland, Friday, 23 March 2012. This roundtable, which follows on from the symposium ‘Future Forecasting: The Challenges Facing Museums and Cultural Institutions (2011), comprises three keynote presentations followed by a Q&A session.  In this way, the opportunity is provided for interaction to continue so that audiences, online and onsite, have a chance to take part in the discussion. Proceedings of the Symposium and Roundtable will be published in 2012.
  •  ‘The Black Line Drawn Across History’: John Mulvany and Irish Political Imagery a lecture by Niamh O’Sullivan, 6.30pm Wednesday, 7 March 2012, Lecture Room G6, School of Art Design and Printing, Dublin Institute of Technology, 41 Mountjoy Square, Dublin 1.   • National Library of Ireland: Lecture: George Petrie Artist and Antiquarian. Lecturer: Peter Murray, Director of the Crawford Art Gallery. Wednesday 29 February at 7pm, Admission is free and no booking is required.  This lecture celebrates the opening of the National Library of Ireland’s new exhibition Particles of the Past which will feature Petrie’s Notebook of Irish Antiquities.

  • International Committee of the History of Arts (CIHA) – ”Get In Touch – Objects, Places, People” Postgraduate Program.   In addition to the 21 sessions and their presentations, the 33rd CIHA conference in Nuremberg in 2012 will offer for the first time a special postgraduate program with workshops, a poster session and a lecture session, as well as a mentoring program. Doctoral candidates and young graduates in art history and cultural history are invited to apply to this program [see following - CIHA_postgraduate_program]. The centrally-located poster session, publicly accessible for the entire duration of the conference, will be supplemented for the first time at a CIHA conference with short lectures by selected poster authors.
  • The 33rd Congress of the International Committee of the History of Arts takes place in Nuremberg between 15th-20th July 2012.  The 2012 CIHA Conference will address the “object” as the central theme of art history over 21 sections pertaining to genre, period, media, and interdisciplinary themes.  For further information see the Conference website.
  • The Burlington Magazine has announced a new Contemporary Art Writing Prize, to be awarded annually.  This competition seeks to discover talented young writers on contemporary art, with the winner receiving £1000 and the opportunity to publish a review of a contemporary art exhibition in The Burlington Magazine. The deadline for submissions is Tuesday 31st January 2012.
  • Applications are invited for the Shinnors Scholarship 2011 MA-Curatorial Studies at Limerick City Gallery of Art, Limerick City Council and Limerick School of Art & Design, Limerick Institute of Technology. The Shinnors Curatorial Scholarship provides the opportunity to investigate specific areas of interest through combined theoretical and empirical research and the initiation of an event or exhibition within the gallery context.   It allows the candidate to undertake a MA or PhD by Research at Limerick School of Art and Design (LSAD), while based predominantly at Limerick City Gallery of Art (LCGA).
